Are you saying, “I'm dizzy, like I'm going to faint?” You are not alone. Many people experience this condition at some point in their life. We usually call it “vertigo,” but it actually has a name: vertigo.

Vertigo is slightly different from the mild dizziness we know. It feels as if everything around you is spinning while you are standing still, or it feels as if you are spinning. Sometimes it takes a few seconds, sometimes it goes longer. Often there may also be nausea or even vomiting.

What Causes Vertigo?

The biggest reason for this is usually the ears. Because the system that ensures our balance is located inside our ears. Even a small problem that is there can cause dizziness. For example, if you are spinning in bed or turning your head suddenly, it is likely that the small crystals in the ear have gone out of place. In addition, inflammation of the ear nerve or impaired fluid balance in the ear can also lead to this condition. More rarely, the problem can also be caused by the brain. Migraines or some more serious illnesses can also make you dizzy, so you should not take it too lightly.

What Are the Symptoms of Vertigo?

Vertigo sufferers usually describe it as “everything is spinning.” In addition, it becomes difficult to stand in balance, there may be stumbling when walking. Nausea, sweating, and sometimes ringing in the ear are also common. That is, not only dizziness, but the entire balance system is affected.

How is Vertigo Treated?

So what do I need to do? The good news is that there is often a cure. Doctors usually prescribe medications that reduce dizziness and nausea. But in some cases even medication is not required. Especially if the crystals in the ear have moved out of place, the problem can be corrected with some simple head movements. In addition, exercises that restore balance are also quite useful.

Things to Consider in Everyday Life

In everyday life, too, there are small things to pay attention to. It is important to avoid sudden movements, gradually get up and sit down, drink plenty of water. It is also good not to consume too much coffee and salt. When your head turns, sit down or lie down immediately, thereby reducing the risk of falling.

But we must not forget that not every dizziness is innocent. If your speech is impaired, your eye does not see properly, you feel weakness in your arms or legs, or if it is accompanied by a very severe headache, you need to go to the doctor without waiting at all.
