What is Rezum Method?
Rezum is a minimally invasive endoscopic technique used in the treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), based on water-vapor (steam) ablation technology. Controlled water vapor delivered into the prostate tissue induces thermal damage, and over the following weeks the body resorbs this treated tissue, reducing prostate volume and improving urinary symptoms.
No surgical cutting or laser energy is used; the procedure is short and typically performed on an outpatient basis, without the need for hospital admission.Surgical cutting or laser is not used; the procedure is short and can usually be performed daily, i.e. without requiring hospitalization.
Advantages of the Rezum Procedure
Minimally invasive and quick
- Procedure duration: 5–10 minutes
- Usually performed without deep anesthesia
- Patients are generally discharged the same day
Largely preserves sexual function
- Erectile and orgasmic function are generally maintained
- The risk of retrograde ejaculation is extremely low, making it particularly suitable for younger men or those who are sexually active
Short recovery period
- Most patients return to daily activities within 1–3 days
- Catheter duration: typically 1–3 days (may extend to 5 days in some cases)
Ideal for small to medium-sized prostates
- Especially effective for prostates measuring 30–80 grams
- A good option for patients who do not benefit from medical therapy but prefer to avoid surgery
Low risk of bleeding
- Because there is no cutting, burning, or laser energy, bleeding is minimal
- Often safe even for patients on anticoagulants (subject to physician evaluation)
Usually does not require hospitalization
- One of the most important advantages of Rezum
- It has minimal impact on daily life
In summary, Rezum uses water-vapor energy to shrink prostate tissue, providing a minimally invasive treatment option that preserves sexual function and offers rapid recovery.
It is an effective alternative for patients who wish to avoid surgery or have high surgical risk.
